Tenkara fishing is all about simplicity—just a rod, line, and fly—and this kit nails that concept. First off, the pole itself is light but sturdy, with a nice flex that makes casting feel natural. It’s super portable, collapsing down small enough to toss in a backpack or bug-out bag without taking up much space. I’ve tested a few Tenkara rods before, and this one holds up well for the price. The included fly kit is a nice touch. The flies aren’t fancy, but they get the job done, and the setup works well for small streams and ponds. I wouldn’t take it after big fish, but for trout and panfish, it’s surprisingly effective. Handy to have
Very light-weight and compactable--barely takes up any room. The half dozen or so flies that come with it are not in a hard case--they are just stuck into the foam circle of fishing line. It would be nicer to have them in a hard case for both protection and reduction of chance of loss. Slightly disappointing because of that, but overall it will be great to take along on day trips to lakes and on longer trips. Never know when you'll come across a great river or lake to fish in.
