I would like to see information about areas to bug out to in the Salt Lake City area that would be out of the more populated areas but still have access to water and wood for fires and shelter.

It’s interesting how many people who wanted change is now worried and looking for survival. Considering his credentials I expected this change and have been preparing for a survival situation

I'd love a discussion on medical topics, especially what you can do to store prescription meds, or how to make do with home remedies, herbals, etc. And I'd love to hear from anyone that may have insights on "DIY" surgical and emergency medicine procedures.

Preparing for winter disasters would be a good topic.

Also – anything about water is needed.

This new system has finially got me motivated to get my pantry started, the calculating is the most difficult part and the recipie buttons right there help in if you actually will use something…Thanks!

I like the new food calculator but couldn't find how to leave it after finishing, without just closing it from the task bar.

It did show some holes I need to plug in our personal supplies, which I'll be doing. We assist a couple of families so have been eating out of our supplies lately, while giving them things they know how to use. Which brings me to what I'd like seeing. I know how to use food storage and have done so for over 40 years now but many of the young people or people new to food storage haven't a clue how to actually turn things like whole grains into food. If you could show a step by step thing with pictures on your site, it would be a lot easier than actually taking them by the hand into the kitchen and letting them grind flour or use things in storage. Thanks, Jeanne

I thought I had a very sufficient amount of food storage for myself and my daughter. Boy was I wrong! This has given me a way of 'seeing' what I need and being able to set goals for my food storage. Thank you so much. I love reading the posts from other people and the articles as well.

I like the quizzes. Good reminders about emergency scenarios.
Hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, fires, blizzards are all great subjects for the quizzes.

Also, what comments do others have about solar ovens. I want to get one, but not sure which.
Thanks.

I would like to see more discussion of hurricane preparedness. I like the radios, lights, and I would like to see it more clear on total dollar investment, articles on what to get if you have $50, or $200 etc. The catalog and web site can be daunting for newbies. Also, over the years we purchased a few items that are no longer being sold, it would be helpful to receive notification when they are going out of stock keeping units so a supply can be ordered before that happens.

OK, I'll try again — first time didn't get uploaded. I would like to see more information on non-food emergency supplies. Everyone needs to store soap (dishes, clothes and personal), toothpaste, toothbrushes, cleaning supplies and bottles of Chlorox to disinfect things. Toilet paper is one essential that most people forget to stock up on. For those of us old enough to remember, we have tried newspaper and old catalogs instead of toilet paper but it is no fun and will clog up today's toilets.

In addition, women who are still having periods, need to store 1 year's worth of Tampax or pads along with any other personal items they need.

Medicines and supplies such as aspirin, tylenol, bandaids, antibiotic cream for cuts and sunscreen need to be stored. Talk to a pharmacist about storage times for these items.

Think about what other non-food items that you purchase each month and begin to stock up those items also.

I'm a diabetic, would you put the ingredients of your meals. Another idea could you make small samples of your products so that we can taste before buying?…. I would like to address home protection, what are we to do when civil unrest threatens our homes? Are we to bug out or stay put? I would like to know more about rain water storage.

What a great idea! Make a list for Christmas, Birthday, anniversary, any special occasion – then shop the latest catalog for the best price, hard to find items, all in the quest to be prepared.
Thanks.

I make out a wishlist everytime I get a new catalog! For Christmas, I got some of those wishes!! I think this is a great idea for those that you have trouble finding just the right gift. I would like to see a sample pack to try some of your different meals—maybe a good idea for those of us having an Enrichment nite or Family Home Evening activity…plus I think all the ideas I have read so far are great suggestions…would also like to see you offer "pick your own" pkgs—that would allow us to pick a couple freeze dried veggies, fruits, eggs or whatever. My family doesn't necessarily eat all the choices given in your current pkgs—would like to custom build a pkg!

Great idea for quick Q&A;'s! Here is a thought for a new topic.

What is your advice regarding the order of food -IE: which foods should be purchased first – for people on a very tight "recession" budget.

I have friends who want to start stocking up, but they don't know what foods to order first on their limited budget.

Thanks!

I'm glad that this site is available to people. Is been a help for me.It has a lot of useful information. I'm still not completely prepared or should I said I still have a lot to learn about how to be prepared and how to teach the family about prepardness regarding food and the emergency kit (items). Specialy when some of us are vegans. But once again thank you.

I would like to see real recipes converted into food storage ingredients or part fresh, part stored. Included would have to be substitutions for things that cannot be stored for any length of time. My extreme example is how to get my son from fruit loops to boiled wheat cereal.

BTW, In my post giving the ice cream recipe using Powdered Egg Whites, If you substitue the Sugar with 2/3 cups of pure crystaline fructose you have not only a diabetic friendly recipe you have a low carb friendly one as well. (pure crystalline fructose does not spike your insulin like reg. sugar does.)

kim

kim

The following is a recipe for Ice Cream using powdered egg whites. Since the egg whites are pasteurized this recipe does not need to be cooked before adding to Ice Cream freezer. This site does not carry powdered cream and I have never used powdered reconstituted milk (or cream) but I am sure it would work as well. This is the BEST ice cream every and very versatile.

Easy Ice Cream

Ingredients:
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup water
1 teas. vanilla extract
1/3 cup powdered egg whites
1 cup sugar

Pour water, vanilla (or favorite extract), powdered egg whites, and sugar into the blender and blend on high for about a minute or hand mix very well with a wisk. The egg whites need this to reconstitute or you get lumps. Next, pour the heavy cream in and blend ONLY for 1 minute(no longer), otherwise it can separate into butter. Add to your ice cream maker and freeze as per your makers instructions.

Note: You can change the flavor by adding different extracts (banana is my favorite), flavorings, syrups, fresh or reconstituted freeze dried fruit (I'm thinking peach or strawberry), instant coffee, cocoa powder (or chocolate whey D’lite or chocolate milk powdered mix), cookies, candies etc.

Additional Note: Add fruits, candies, chunky foods at the end of freezing, add flavorings, chocolate powders at the beginning.

ENJOY!!(who said being prepared had to be boring?)
