Hi Crystal,

I’m with you. When we use “long-term” for food storage we’re usually referring to periods longer than one year, and if we were to apply that to water storage, it does seem impossible! The current advice is to aim for 3-days of water storage, and more if your resources (time, space, money) allow. My approach is to do what I can realistically do. I just don’t have enough space for a year’s supply of water, but I can store two weeks’ worth.

How many people are in your family? Do you have pets to factor in? The Water Reserve is a great option for families — it houses a lot of water and doesn’t take up a lot of space. Plus it’s easy to get the water out when you need it.

I think storing water purifiers and filters is a great option. Store what water you can for each person in your family, and consider adding some of our water filters to your storage.

I haven’t found anywhere the amount of water we should have stored for long term other than a gallon a day per person which is somewhat impossible for a big family . Any suggestions?
