Re: #3. One of the best can openers ever made was the wall mount Rival “Can-O-Mat” circa 1930’s – 50’s. Available on E-Bay. The can is held in place and never falls away when the cut is finished, until you crank it backwards. Ours has been in service since the 1950’s!

You can also use cheap solar lights that you place outside. Just bring them in when it gets dark. Sun does all the work and also safer then candles with little children. I have tried this when we had a power outage. Just use as many for as much light as you eant ir need. We use the 97 cent ones.. they work great.

Colloidal silver should be included in the hygiene items list. If you have the space, add a small still to distill water (for making more colloidal silver) and a source of pure silver (such as Canadian Maple Leaf coins). Silver is very affordable right now, and just a couple of Maple Leaf coins would make a lifetime supply of colloidal silver.
Silver kills bacteria without allowing it a chance to adapt and develop resistance, unlike modern antibiotics. Given the appearance of MRSA and other antibiotic bacteria, having colloidal silver at hand in a long-term emergency situation could be “good as gold.”

If you believe that having all the above – and then some, is a necessity for an emergency situation, then you’ll certainly want self defense capabilities. Water makes the list at #9 – which should be #1 – and should be about the multiple ways and back ups of storage, filtration, purification. Without clean potable water there simply is no life. Without guns, ammo, cleaning kits for self defense it doesn’t matter if you have everything under the sun for a long term survival because someone with a firearm will surely take it from you. Sadly, it’s just the way it is nowadays.
