I would like to see more discussion on water storage. Specifically how long can you store water before you refresh it, do you need to add bleach to it and/or purification tablets? I would also like to see more on do-it-yourself solar projects so that we can stop relying on electrical companies, and have power during hard times.

I'd like to hear about different methods of rotating food storage. California homes do not have basements so we have to get creative with shelving systems, and under beds. But it makes it difficult to rotate.

I would love for you to discuss how often water needs to be changed out in the big barrel and water box kits. Your new site is wonderful!

I'd like to see more info about storing water — in what kinds of bottles, jugs, barrels, etc., how often to rotate, how much is needed, and how do you transport large amounts if necessary? Do you sell any kind of cart to pull barrels along on?

Glad that you created such a site! As a family, we would be interested in topics concerning preparations for a pandemic (with all the swine flu stuff going on), how to travel in emergencies, how to rotate effectively your food storage, how to keep track of food storage expiration dates, how to cook with food storage (that is edible, not just survivable), more on kid preparedness.

Thanks! look forward to reading the blog!

Would love to see more info on cooking in emergencies… especially longer emergencies… you can or want to store only so much liquid fuel like kerosene or white gas…. and solid fuels don't seem to last as long… but don't want to be cooking over wood in mmy backyard in the middle of winter!!!!

Please consider discussing what the basic needs for a family of 4 to evacuate their home in an emergency and travel about 250 miles to a safe destination. Consider two emergency stops because of unseen events that combined postponed the trip by as much as 20 hr. Conceder not only basic food, Emergency shelter, Clothing Toiletry, Portable light, Radio, CB Radio, Emergency Scanner, Some % of Vehicle Fuel, Water and portable waist disposal. How these items are to be stored at home, How and which member of the family are responsible to see that these items are loaded and store for the trip. Finally what recreational material is suitable for such an emergency trip?

What are your top recommendations to be prepared right now. We know power sources, bulk food, local garden, emergency supplies…

If we do grow our own wheat or have to process whole grains… what are some timeless tranditional methods that we have forgotten during these current times… :)

What would the ideal ratio of basic foodstuffs, such as beans, rice, wheat, milk powder, ie ingredients, and ready made meals, such as freeze dried and MRE's to keep a good variety so the food stored can be flexible in meal making and have variety so it won't be monotinous and boring.

Thanks for the wonderful information. I continually prepare for emergencies and your blog has given me lots of new information. I would love to learn about what containers are safe for storing water. Recently, another plastic bottle has been found to be bad so I am now in a quandry as to which small containers are safe.

So glad to see this new site! With the country experiencing so much uncertainty, it's important to have a plan. Since the government has announced that our power grid is compromised, I would like to see information and a discussion of how to manage if the electricity is off for an extended period of time (especially if you live in an urban setting).

What a fabulous idea! I would appreciate any tried and true tested tips from real people on "how to" do things more efficiently and more cost effectively. If we could communicate with someone who left a tip — if we have a follow-up question or a reply to what they said — that would be great!

Love the blog!! will be linking to this for sure!
I am sort of a preparedness dummy and I want to do more, so what is the first thing someone should make sure they have accomplished? what is the best way to store for a family size? and are there any ways to make this easy, simple, and super convenient in a busy and crazy world?
I have a lot more questions, but most of them are being asked already.

I read in the paper today about a man who lost his job making 200K a year down to 25K a year. Now he can tell you what grocery store has the best price on milk instead of ordering $200.00 bottles of wine. We have been in this fix before and had to rely on our food storage. Maybe more about stories of how people survived and what they did to do so. Also, men read this too so what is the difference between red wheat and white wheat, etc.

I love your website and have purchased my 72hr. kit and I am very happy with it. I need to start my food storage again and have some issues with buying your prepared kits. I am diabetic and cannot have all the items in your prepared kits so need to make my own. Is there a way to do this without it being so expensive? Any suggestions?

This subject I have hardly seen on any of the sites I order from:
"How to determine if the food you order is not GMO altered or contains any (HFCS) high fructose corn syrup or corn products that are proven to contain mercury."
Now that is where I will place my next order.
