What Makes Mountain House Awesome?
scientifically proven to store for at least 25 years. 2. Each meal uses fresh ingredients: Since Mountain House only uses fresh ingredients, the nutritional value, color, and texture of the food is preserved during the freeze drying process. This means that you can enjoy the same nutritional benefits you would from eating a fresh apple each time you bite into a Mountain House freeze-dried apple slice. 3. Each meal has a home-cooked taste: Instead of freeze-drying each individual component in the meal and then packaging it all together, Mountain House prepares and cooks each meal before freeze-drying. To ensure optimal flavor and to enhance the quality of each meal, Mountain House adds noodles into the package after the freeze-drying process. As you add water to your meal, the noodles will cook in the same time it takes to reconstitute the other components, so you’ll have tender noodles to enjoy with each meal. This method of freeze-drying gives each Mountain House meal a home cooked taste that everyone enjoys. Added bonus: each meal is cooked by trained, professional chefs (no wonder it’s so good!) 4. Each meal is quick and simple to prepare: The best thing about Mountain House meals is that they are easy to prepare. All you have to do is add hot water, wait 8-10 minutes, and voila, dinner is served. 5. You can use Mountain House for more than just emergencies: Mountain House isn’t only good in emergencies, but it is also perfect for camping trips, a quick hot meal for when you don’t feel like cooking, and for preparing a quick meal for an ailing neighbor. Fun fact: Did you know? Mountain House’s parent company, Oregon Freeze-Dry began by selling freeze-dried meals to the military during the Vietnam War. Since 1968, Mountain House has been trusted to feed troops in every theater of combat. 6. Mountain House is improving each day: Mountain House has a dedicated team of researchers that work each day to ensure that Mountain House foods taste great. They even have a sensory group that evaluates the taste, texture, and flavor of each meal to make sure that each product is high quality. Fluctuations in temperature, odors, and other chemicals can lessen the quality (and longevity) of your food. Thanks for your question. I went and looked at Mountain House’s site (we sell Mountain House, but we don’t make that product ourselves) and also at our own for any possible vegan options. All I could find were the Mountain House vegetable sides like the fire roasted veggies, peas, corn, etc. They do have several vegetarian options, but a lot of them contain dairy. I’d suggest getting in to contact with Mountain House and asking them to consider producing vegan products because I think that is a great market to reach. You can contact them here: http://www.mountainhouse.com/M/CTUS.html. As far as the low sodium products go (unfortunately, they don’t have any vegan options for low sodium products), the pouch versions of the chicken and white bean chili, chicken salad, and New Orleans Rice with Shrimp and Ham are all low sodium options.
We have always liked Mountain House products, but now are looking for vegan entrees. Are you planning to do any freeze-dried vegan entrees?
Another issue we have is the amount of salt in so many freeze-dried products out there. Do you have any low sodium entrees?
Thank you for your question. Since many of the products do contain seasonings, there is MSG in some of the products. Please look at the labels and nutritional info on the cans before purchasing.
Thank you for giving us great food for so many years.
Do any of your products use MSG?
Thanks for sharing! That’s a great way to use Mountain House.
We have been using Mountain House for years for years especially when we go hunting. Now we have houses in Ireland, Nove Scotia, and Germany and they are all stocked with Mountain House products.
It is great because we dont have to go shopping when we get there. Just heat water and eat the best food you can hope for.
Mountain House has been added to my food storage shelves for years. I would like to know which entrees include some form of MSG.
Thanks for this video, too!
Thanks for sharing. In your opinion, do you think the food has changed much since the 1970s? What types of entrees were they serving then compare to now? Also, what would you say your favorite Mountain House meal is?
We discovered Mountain House as backpackers in the 1970s. It is now my go to food when I don’t feel up to cooking but want something tasty to eat.
Thanks for your comment! Mountain House has worked very hard to make a quality product.
Thanks for your comment!
Thanks for reading our blog and thanks for commenting! We do think that Mountain House is a great product and want to share it with everyone. Since you’ve been buying Mountain House for years, what would you say is your favorite Mountain House meal?
Thank you so much for the video. I’ve been buying Mountain House for years and I’m happy to see how seriously you work to bring us a quality product!

I think Mountain House tastes good. They are also the only place that does freeze dried foods without also processing peanuts/treenuts in their facility! That is why they are the only brand we will buy :)
